Dear colleagues,
Microsoft announced a service change affecting Copilot availability for M365 office applications for users without a paid Microsoft 365 Copilot premium license.
What is changing

- Starting on April 15, 2026, the Copilot icon in ribbon is no longer available in: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

- Copilot Chat remains available to faculty, staff and students:

- On the web at https://m365.cloud.microsoft/chat/
-
- In the Microsoft 365 Copilot app

- In the Outlook app, including the inbox and calendar features

- In the Teams app
Who is affected
-
- Users without a paid Microsoft 365 Copilot Premium license

- No changes for full Copilot-licensed users
What you need to do

- No action is required from your end.

- If you need Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or OneNote, a paid Microsoft 365 Copilot license is required. (learn more)
