About

The University of Toronto’s Information Technology Services division currently operates SAP to enable key university business processes, including Finance (FIS), Human Resources (HRIS) and Research Administration (RIS). The systems, initially implemented in 1995, connect approximately 33,000 users at U of T to a wide variety of services such as Employee Self-Service, online applications for research administration, payroll processing, and financial and procurement decisions.

The SAP applications are deeply integrated with external service providers such as Green Shield Canada for benefits processing, as well as internal systems such as identity management and security, and the student information systems. Augmenting these systems are a variety of vendor packages: Kronos for time and attendance, Taleo for recruitment, Halogen for performance management and Jaggaer for e-procurement. The system is heavily decentralized with approximately 350 core users responsible for financial and HR payroll operations across three campuses.

Over the past five years, SAP has evolved their technology platform to include innovation in core technology (HANA – in-memory DB) and acquisition of market leading cloud vendors, which are now part of their product offerings. As a result, support of the existing SAP platform on which the University of Toronto systems rely will cease by 2025, necessitating an upgrade of all SAP products owned by the institution.

After an extensive consultation and review process, Enterprise Applications & Solutions Integration (EASI) will use the latest SAP technology to upgrade all Administrative Management Systems – providing a consistent and streamlined user experience.

The U of T Enterprise Modernization Program is a three-to five- year project that includes an upgrade of the entire HR Talent Management Suite, an upgrade of the core HR, Research and Finance systems, and an upgrade in core technology. To enable the upgrade, all infrastructure supporting the new versions of SAP software will be upgraded and moved to a more robust cloud platform with 24/7 support.

IMPROVED USER EXPERIENCE

The new user interface for the HR Talent Management suite will provide users with a streamlined, consistent experience – helping users to perform more work in less time.
