Dear colleagues,

Microsoft is changing how deleted OneDrive files are handled. This rollout is expected to be completed by late May 2026.   

What is changing  

If a OneDrive synchronized file or folder is deleted on the Web or another device, it will no longer appear in your computer’s Recycle Bin/Trash.  

Instead, you can recover it from the OneDrive for Web/SharePoint Online Recycle bin. 

How to restore a deleted file in OneDrive for Web/SharePoint Online: 

• • Go to OneDrive for Web or SharePoint Online (https://m365.cloud.microsoft/apps) 

• • Open the Recycle Bin 

• • Select the file 

• • Click Restore 

Deleted files are stored in the online Recycle Bin for up to 93 days.

• • Restore items in the recycle bin that were deleted from SharePoint or Teams
