Re: Future of Rocketshuttle
Dear Rocketshuttle users
Over the coming months we will be planning the implementation of Azure Data Studio and PowerBI to replace Rocketshuttle as an ad hoc query tool before the end of the year. We know that current Rocketshuttle users have different levels of expertise and comfort with the tool. We need to determine what kind of support we need to put in place to assist you with the transition. So that we might better understand how you use Rocketshuttle, can we request that you complete this survey by Friday, March 18? Please note, your responses are not anonymous.
There are some things we can tell you about the new tool and the transition now. It will be possible to query the Azure copy of the ROSI database(s) reducing the load on the transactional production database and making it possible to continue running queries and reports on high volume days (e.g., first day of Fall/Winter enrolment in Arts and Science). It will also be possible to construct queries against multiple databases, if the user has authorization. The tool does run on a different platform so there will be some minor differences in sql commands. There will also be a challenge in copying existing queries and procedures. We are exploring some options to mitigate this. This is one of the reasons why the survey and the questions about your query library are so important. (Note: for users with large query and procedure libraries, it would be worthwhile reviewing your collection to determine what may be used by others, and what could be removed before the shift to the new tool.)
If you have any questions about any of this, feel free to reach out to us. You can submit a question on the Enterprise Service Centre, or directly to Rodney Branch, Manager of Client Services & Process Integration (Rodney.branch@utoronto.ca).
